Types of Embroidery Hoops and Frames

When it comes to embroidery there is one major thing that holds great importance i.e. the embroidery frame. The right type of embroidery frame will make sure that your design turns out to be exactly like you imagined it to be.

Now, there are various frames available and each one is designed for individual purposes. So, let’s explore all one by one. These can be categorized into two categories i.e. hoops and frames.

A) Embroidery Hoops
Embroidery hoop consists of two rings. One ring has a smaller diameter and another one that has a slightly larger diameter. The big ring has a screw which is used for tightening the fabric on which you are working on.
They are easy to work when you have a small design. The best thing about these is they are inexpensive, take small space, comfortable to hold in one hand and can be easily moved from surface to surface in big embroidery projects. These hoops come mainly in two materials, i.e. plastic and wood. Both are good and come in various sizes. You can choose whichever size suits you the best.
These can also be used for doing paintings and framing the design. The major advantage with these hoops is that they can be used for hand as well as machine embroidery and you can buy embroidery hoops online at wholesale prices here.
Now let’s explore the various shapes they are available in:

1) Round Embroidery Hoops

These circular hoops are round in shape and are available in various sizes like 4 Inch, 5 Inch, 6 Inch, 7 Inch, 8 Inch, 10 Inch, 12 Inch, and 14 Inch. You can choose the size according to the size of the project. They are good at maintaining equal tension on all sides of the fabric.

2) Oval Hoops

These can be used in cases where you have a design which is more length wise like a plant.

3) Square Hoop

If you have a design that is squarer in shape then you can try this frame as it will help you to visualize your design in a much better way.

4) Triangle Hoop

Similar to above, if you have a triangular design, you can use this frame. You will easily be able to envision the design in the best way.

B) Slate Embroidery Frames/ Adda

This adda slate embroidery frame is made of two pairs of bars. One pair is known as sidebars and other one other is roller bars. The bar has diagonal holes into it and they can be used to adjust the tension the fabric.
