How to sew sequins on fabric / Wedding Dress

If you want to add sparkle to your designs and have no idea how to do it. Well, I am here to help you with that. In this article, I will show you how to sew sequins to the fabric in three different methods. All you have to do is follow along as they are really very easy and you can easily learn them in no time.

Method 1: Basic Method of Sewing Sequins

Step 1: Take the thread and pass it through the eye of the needle.
Step 2: Cut the required length of thread and tie a knot at the end of the thread.
Step 3: Now, bring the needle up by passing it through the fabric.
Step 4: Take a flat round sequins and pass it through the needle.
Step 5: Now, pass the needle through the fabric along the circumference of the sequin. Bring the needle up again through the centre.
Step 6: Make a stitch in opposite direction by passing needle near the edge of the sequin and bring the needle up again through the centre.
Step 7: Now, make a stitch in between the two stitches.
Step 8: Similarly, do the same on the opposite side. Basically, you are making four stitches which in turn look like a cross.
You would have to make at least two stitches to hold the sequins in place.
If you want to make it more interesting then you can make multiple stitches that in turn will look more like a flower. Pretty amazing! Right?

Method 2: Overlapping Sequins

Step 1: Take the thread and pass it through the eye of the needle.
Step 2: Cut required length of thread and tie a knot at the end.
Step 3: First, make a normal stitch on the fabric where you want to sew sequins. This will make sure that the thread is properly locked in its place.
Step 4: Add a sequin to the needle.
Step 5: Now, pass the thread near the edge of the sequin.
Step 6: Pass one more sequin through the needle.
Step 7: Again, pass the thread near the edge of the sequin in the same direction.

Step 8: Similarly, sew more paillette sequins like this forming a straight line or a circle as per your need.

Method 3: Sewing Sequins with Beads

Step 1: Pass the string through the eye of the embroidery needle.
Step 2: Cut the string to the length you need it to be and tie a knot toward the end.
Step 3: Place the needle and thread under the fabric where you want to stitch the sequins.
Step 4: Now, pass the needle and thread through the fabric by bringing needle on the upper side of the fabric.
Step 5: Add a sequin and then add a seed bead to the string by passing it through the needle.
Step 6: Take the thread back through the sequin hole where originally the thread came from, remember this time you have to skip the bead.
Step 7: Now, repeat these steps until you have got yourself the desired design.
Step 8: In the end, tie the knot under the fabric to secure all the sequins in place.
These were three basic and the easiest methods of sewing sequins to the fabric.
